GOOD FOR A GIRL

I wanted this book to be the first to feature in this section because of how much I could relate to it - despite not being a professional athlete myself.

Good for a Girl: My Life Running in a Man's World by Lauren Fleshman, one of the most decorated American distance runners, touched on two subjects close to my heart: running - of course - and imposter syndrome, more often materialised as that awkward feeling of “not enough”, that haunts many of us women in different areas of our lives.

I gravitate towards audio books as I find them easier to go through during my busy days - jogging to the gym, walking the dog, cooking…. And having Lauren’s voice in the background was like chatting to a fellow running friend. I often found myself accidentally interjecting with “Oh my god, exactly!” or “I can’t believe I didn’t realise this until you said it”.

It is, in short, a brilliant book that makes you reflect on equality, privilege, the power of media and marketing, mental health, endurance, role models - or the lack of - integrity, entrepreneurism, and running, for sure!

You can see why it was so easy for me to relate to it, right?
